A walk.
I have been driving this POS truck for about 7-years, a factory striped Ranger 4-cyl knocks down 30-MPG and has always been a good reliable POS truck.
Minor maintenance, oil, tires... And today a five mile walk home the day is shot to hell and truck well it is electrical and I have no idea where, could just be the coil died... It can sit there because I ain't walking back today, it's only 85° but Eff'tat
When someone gets home I'll go drag it back here.
Till then, cold beer sounds real good
Suppose that I could have called a tow, except I forgot my cell this AM... ... ant I don't think the POS is worth that much.
Still if this is it I will be sad to see it go.

Ain't it just the best when they decide "I ain't gonna go no further", and you are now riding the leather soul express. Of course it could have left you stranded in the middle of a rain storm in the dark with no flashlight and no beer when you got home.

Any mechanical contraption that would take on such a malevolent attitude to the personage what kept it alive for so many years I would shoot, repeatedly, with a large enough caliber bore size so as to accomplish the end results and yet allow enough time to saver the resultant carnage...

In less then 1/4 of the time I spent walking home, we drove over, snagged it with a strap Draged the thing home pushed it up to the shop, flipped it off and drank a COLD beer.
Anyone got a wiring diagram for a Carb'd 2.0L Duraspark, Ranger, because this thing has zero spark!

pop the dist. cap and make sure the rotor's turning when you crank it. Just to rule out the roll pin on the gear. A seized oil pump will shear that pin every time.
been there done that.

Everything moves when it should.
This is electrical... I think
I had a coil and DSpark box and no change.
Could be dist trigger failed or it could be as simple as a broken connection/wire
I should say it has done this intermittently/random several times but this is the first time it stayed . Usually it was key off, key on, run another 4-6 months... Never could find the problem so I hope this time I can track it down.

Man I hate these kinds of problems, they can drive you nucking futs. I think I would try to change out the pickup or see if there is a resistance test for it. I have tested them (other manufacturers) buy turning the distributer back and forth to trigger the pickup while measuring the output leads with an ohm meter and watch for a change in the reading.

You should hate it because that is the rig I need to get your box up to the city to get it shipped to you! And my drive to "nucking futs" is a real short one.

No... Having a HO5.0L Roller engine new on a stand it is tempting.
But this body is about done due to rust and they are too cheep to fix.
I have a rolling chassis super cab 4x4 with zero rust, sitting.
I'm thinking a stroked 2.3L with an Esslinger head obviously EFI, Intercooled and Turbocharged. but realistically I'd be happy with getting adequate performance and 30MPG again... It's just that i picked up another chassis that could use the 5.0L more but I do have a 5.8L sitting

...went out a bit ago to start testing, had my DMM and all that.
Check everything off and then set up to test while cranking,
hit the key it makes maybe 1/2-a-revolution fires and purrs like a kitten...
How do I fix it when it fixes itself?

Do what I do in a situation like this. Hit it with a real big hammer and then fix what ever you broke, it may not fix the original problem but at least you get the satisfaction of fixing "something". Snicker, snicker.
