well i`ll apologise now... beleive me if petrol wasn`t so damn expensive over here i`d have something with a V8..

this blog was started on a UK site a LONG while ago so i`ll just post some pics or the time being until i`m up to the current stage...

from a std road car i`d done a few things to it.. wheels/suspension/seats but with it being in the UK and the french tin approaching 15 years old i decided to give it an overhaul before it got too rusty and build into into a dedicated track car instead of everyday commuter..)

ok.. here we go...

riiiiiiiiiiight i think thats about it.... any comments/advice is welcome as quite frankly you yank guys are light years ahead of the UK in terms of products and equipment... tht said i have got these lined up for the rebuild..

as for current work.. i`m building a steel box to sink into where the rear seats used to be that`ll house an ally fuel cell (which also need making!!)

...don't you just love the feeling when all the stripping out and patchwork/repair work is done so you can finally get to the go fast fabrication!
That was a bunch of work and looks well done!

cheers for the kind words.. theres been times when i`ve felt like giving up and just buying a newer car but wheres the fun in that???

fingers crossed from now on its cool stuff instead of cutting out rot and makng sections of panels...

ive also got it into my head now to relocate the top mounts of the front suspension to increase the castor angle.. got some plates drawn up on CAD (autocad LT 2004.. doubt its used over the pond though) so once i get that finalised and sent over to the local laser profilers i can get them cut out and put in too...

i cant take any credit for the cage mate... it was bought as a complete kit from a UK company called - CUSTOM CAGES..

my only critisism would be that some of the tubes have been notched with a template and plasma cutter and some have been done on a linisher (belt sander) and appropriately sized pulley...

the plasma cut ones dont fit as well as the sanded ones and will need either a file or rotary die run around them to clean the metal up and get them sitting against each other..

right.... box for the tank....

needs the ends fully welding but was busy at work today...

pressed a cross in the base as its only 1.2mm sheet and din`t want it to flap about..

just needs a big hole cutting in the floor and welding in place..

dimensionwise its about 710 x 350(ish) x 200.. once done i need to make the ally tank to sit inside it and that should give about 45 litres which is std fuel capacity...

Really nice job on the patch panels, I've done more then my fair share of rust repair so I know what you just went through. I thought that old American cars were bad for rusting out but that Peugeot must have more water pockets then anything I've ever dealt with, 15 years old and that much rust. I guess that is French for you, great food, not so great cars.

On those plasma cut tubes, make sure that you remove any and all slag and grind the cut edge down to clean steel before you try to weld it. That cut edge has a lot of oxides on it and it will contaminate the weld bad (cause porosity)

yeah i must admit i was a bit disappointed by the plasma cut cut.. like you say not nly does it leave impurities but unlike doing it on a belt sander it doesn`t feather the edges so the tubes dont fully butt up...

however i did buy a few sanding bobbins/drums.. (not sure what you guys call them) similar to these:

and theres always the trusty half round file too..

aye.. french cars have a lot of water traps.. the panel fit underneath all the seam sealer isn`t that good either.. and the sheet is damn thin...

managed to weld the tank box ends in place at work satuday afternoon..

all marked out (about 8 times as i did not want to screw it up!!!)

disc cutter + shell = MAJOR oooooh ass nipping moment...

BUT luck was on my side.. only tacked in but it fits and its in...

been making some headway these past few days...

managed to get the front parts of the cage welded up.. a couple of bits i`m not proud off but theyre the bits up against the roof so they`re out of sight. the weld itself is solid but it aint the prettyest....

decided to check clearance with my seats and doorbars....

TIGHT!!!! but they fit..

at the minute clearance for the roofbars is tight.. but i think i can drop the seats with some modded sidemounts...

the seat bars are 40mm tube so there must be another 50mm i can come down with the seat...

holesaw`d through the scuttle so i could link the cage to the turrets.. no dimensions were given with the cage kit so i scratched my head made a made mark and went for it...

also tried putting the roof bars in again but no matter how i position them i think my head will catch them ( will try again tommorrow mybe put them in a V insted of an X... if not i`ll have to miss them out)

also had some cutting and shaping for the A post supports (only supplied as a bare tube)

initially i cut it as 1 single run inside the door bars but unless i used a button for a steering wheel my hands would hit it... going to the doorbar and then down pulls it over about 3 or 4 inchs and should give enough knuckle clearance...

Your rust patch work looks top notch. All of the work looks nice. I have a great deal of respect for any car that has this kind of work into it. Whether it be an american muscle car, lowrider, or your peugot......

well had a think and a play about with the bare seat sat on the seat rails..

and...

rude not to put them in isn`t it...

also cut and shaped the dash bar but needed some help forcing the front bars apart wide enough to get the bitch in...

i had 2 options...

either get start the steroids and wait few months but time was aginst me so i settled for 2nd best..

porta-power.....

dash bar in place!

fresh bottle of gas tommorrow and good weekend push and it should be pretty much done.. thank god!!
