grainger.com has a daytona 6x48 belt disc combo that has a belt speed of 2700 sfpm and disc speed i think around 4700 for around 499 its on a stand and has a 1 hp 220 or 110 motor do you think that is fast enough for metal. Not really sure for a fact about disc speed website to grainger down right now but i do remeber the belt speed because i've been eyeing this thing daily.

I purchased this sander with the intention of using to polish walls that I applied Venetian plaster and wax too. For that purpose, it performed flawlessly.
The Makita is very balanced and powerful and for the price, a very nice tool. I do not know how it would perform for sanding but it has a very high speed and
for the job I needed to be done, I had no complaints.
