sprint car rock buggy

Here is my first build of this nature. I found 2 sprint car chassis for $800 (for the pair) and could not pass up the deal. A few days later, my nephew said he found a 86 Toyota that a guy wants to trade him for working on his truck and I could have it for $200. Am looking for a Toyota front axle to keep everything matched. (going to build the 2nd chassis with all the big stuff). The toyota buggy is going to be a learning experience for the 2nd chassis with a small block and full widths and atlas t case. Found a Lincoln 255 square wave TIG w/ water cooler for $800. I am tinkering around with a 4 link calculator and banging my head against the wall on that one ! LOL.... Any advice would be great.

37" tires
5.29 gears
22RE motor
auto tranny
toy t-case
full hydro steering (probably PSC)
Fox 2.5 Air Shocks

a world of outlaw sprint car only weighs about 1200lbs so i am thinking this thing will be in the 15-1700 lb area when done. We hauled the chassis over to my place in the backs of our pickups and 2 of us lifted them out so they don't weigh anything.

My new welder

The red chassis will be the big build after i sruggle on the Toy build

The white chassis is going to be the Toyota build

It will be a great project.

this one?

This buggy is why I am going for it. He did a KILLER JOB! tried to pick his brain for some pointers and I got an email back to call if I wanted information. Just have been too busy with the biz to even call him.

Sam is a great guy. I talked with him at length about it at Moab a couple of years back. I hated to see him turn it over hard and messed up the steering pretty early in the event. But it is still one of the cleaner builds out there.

Of all the things that could be done with an old sprint car, I never dreamed I would see that. Pretty cool, though!

Here in Ohio, old sprint car frames are a dime a dozen. The top dogs only run them about 20 nights or so and replace them.

I am getting excited to start on it. Everytime i see a new tool, I seem to go and buy it so at this rate, the buggy will NEVER get done!

I have the engine in the chassis and currently rebuilding the tranny. Tranny is going in tomorrow and then starting the 4 link front and rear. Will be taking pics as I go and posting them. I have been busy as a 1 legged man the last few weeks with my company.

rocks would be great! This is a pretty low budget build and a learning experience for the next one. I am thinking of making the next one a 2 seater. Going to widen it for another seat. It has been fun and will learn a ton on this one.

got the tranny installed today.. Still need to fab a x-member but it is starting to show some progress. I ended up using the red chassis because of the intake manifold/ exhaust manifold locations in comparison to the slant tubes. I will leave the white chassis for a small block on the next build.
