Ive been shopping for a lift lately myself.
At first I was going to go with either a 9k lb 2 post asymetric from Direct Lift $1995 or a 10k lb "versametric" from Forward lift $2895. Both are made by the same company that owns Rotary and are distributed by a company just 80 miles from home. Which means I could pick it up and save shipping but pay have to pay 8% sales tax. The price of the Direct had my attention at first. However, its not ALI (American Lift Institute) marked. Not to say that it couldn't be, but its not. So that got me leaning towards the Forward unit which is marked.
However, then a friend of mine turned me on to the Bendpak XPR-10A (which he just purchased for his ~$1M race shop) which can be had from Northern Tool for $3010 shipped (and no tax for me in NY). Also if you use ebates you can get another $90 back. Overall the Bendpak seems like a much heavier built unit. The uprights are one piece vs two. In general the metal is of much heavier gauge and the floor plates are thicker and of bigger footprint. If I can find the comparison I found showing the difference between Bendpak and others Ill post it. Im sure google would find it pretty quick for you.
Anyway, long story short, I think if you want something quite nice and "reasonably" priced Id go with the Bendpak XPR series. Thats what Im going to be doing soon (I hope)
