They need to re-design those dimple dies so they can do more than 18GA, which includes not threading the dimple die itself :/

Definitely a cool idea for panel retention. Here's a thought, would the work hardening of that setup make the panel brittle to a point of early failure? As opposed to having a hole alone for mounting a panel. This I would think a concern more focused on the off road guys and the street guys.

I have been eyeing the Crater Maker dies, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Levi Green is the guy behind Hammer Fab. He's built some super cool stuff at Rad Rides by Troy and now that he's out on his own. I think they're a very cool detail for when you have to retain panels with screws.

He also sells the Huck hydraulic rivet tool and the tooling to use it to set riv-nuts. I think some of the dimple tooling he sells works with the Huck tool, also. I really like the dimple dies that he sells to make riv-nuts actually flush with the panel they're installed in, so it doesn't push the mating piece out from flush.

I could see where vibration cracking might happen in a severe off-road environment or structural panel, if these are used on a higher strength aluminum alloy. I don't think it would be a real big concern with mild steel or 3003 aluminum in a normal environment.
