Most shops have a work bench, or table, or some sort of work surface so you won't have to do everything on the floor. But cost of materials and requirements usually dictate that these are made of wood. Once you start welding, if you don't already know, you figure out really quick that wood is not the ideal surface to be working on. So, now you need to figure out how you will use the table, what you have room for, what you can afford, and then maybe do a reality check to figure out what you really need. The result can range anywhere from a piece of steel plate/sheet on top of your existing table or bench, all the way up to a full on steel layout table with Blanchard ground "true flat" top and fixture mounting system. Hopefully this article will help you with making those decisions.
