Tube doors we just built for a customer

Hey gang,

We just built some doors. Customer design (sketch). He wanted dimpled hinge plates and the tubes laid out a certain way. His vehicle was the same as one of the ones always at our shop (88 4runner), so we used ours as a fixture and to get good measurements.

Door designed in Bend Tech PRO v7.x:

Cut, bent, notched, tacked:

Doors almost done, making dimpled hinge plates:

Last test fit before some final welding and blend/scotch brite:

So I guess I have been under a rock for sometime. I got to know where you got those dies. I don't think I remember ever hearing about dimples in that shape. Looks pretty sweet.

Those look great. What are you using to latch them? The oval dimples are very cool; is there a practical way to make the holes for those without a CNC plasma or laser cutter?

I know it's common practice to attach tube doors to the original body/hinges, but I think it misses an opportunity to tie the exo-cage together, making both of them stronger in the process.

Come on Clint... did you click the link?

Set includes:
Complete set of shaped dies for square, triangle, ellipse/oval, and star.
Plasma cutter drag tip stencil (we have them to match your plasma cutter).
DXF and PDF files of cutout shapes for your use in producing these shapes.

Clint- I think the same thing when I look at my tube doors sitting just behind the biggest gap in my Exo cage... I think I may just make a set for the exo.

These doors latch with a 2 stage spring loaded automotive grade door latch on the stock striker. It is a really nice compact setup with an almost OEM feel to it. We sell the latches too for DIYers.

And like Rok said, we include a drag tip guide (plasma cutter stencil) with each order. Great for old work or doing them on the cheap in low qty.

Great looking tube doors you have done. What kind of door locks do you use on these?

I'm assuming you mean what I call latches. They are a door latch we buy directly from a manufacturer here in the US. They are a 2 stage spring loaded automotive grade latch. They are perfect for this kind of work. Here is a photo of them:

And a link to them on our webpage: https://www.roguefab.com/product.php?id=88

Yes you're right, it was those door latches I had in mind. My english ain't the best, sorry about that. Thank you for the input. I have been thinking about tube doors a while now. Think I search for a set of latches over here if I can find some two stage ones that fit my purposes.
