Mud Motor info needed

Does anyone here have any information or advice for building a mud motor ?
I know they are very popular in the south and many people build their own. I'm hoping that someone here that's built one before can pass on any advice or tips. I'm not sure if I want to go with the traditional long tail or the short tail (surface, or hyper drive, etc.), so any advice on either type is greatly appreciated.

For those that may not know what a mud motor is, it's a type of outboard boat motor usually powered by a Briggs & Stratton or similar type motor. They do extremely well in heavily vegitated or very shallow water. Basically like the 4x4 of the boat world.

Thanks to all for any help.

I bought the plans off ebay. They give you a good starting point if you don't have one to look at and pull measurements off. I've got the steel together for mine but haven't got the funds together for the motor yet.
