Help out a fellow offroader who was paralyzed
Quote:
On April 21, 2006, Ben Darby - Turbrotoy - was rushing to get his new project truck ready for it's first wheelin trip at the TinBender's Jamboree. He had just bought this truck after selling his old trail rig a few months before to persue his and his son's interest in street bike and stunt riding.
On that Friday, Ben was in an accident on his motorcycle while cruising the city streets near his Monrovia California home. He suffered 2 collapsed lungs, numerous broken ribs and various other bones, and crushed his spine in his lower back. This has left him paralyzed from the waist down. He is currently in intensive care at Hunington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. Though he looked in bad shape when I visited him on Sunday, he has made huge strides towards recovery. He can breathe on his own and sometimes communicate with hand signals or writing when he isn't too drugged up. If you are a friend of his and want some more info, please PM me or Heywood.
Ben and his son Blake have a lot to worry about. So a few friends got together and we planned out a way to cheer them up and get them back on the trails.
Ben's original plans for the truck were to make it just like his old truck. He drove that thing around town, up to the Big Bear trails, to and all over the Hammers.
So we are going to buildup his new project truck for him as best we can. The biggest difference is that we are going to put in an auto tranny with dual cases and hand controls. And the rest is going to depend on what kind of parts we can get donated. The few of us that are putting this together don't have enough extra cash laying around to do a complete buildup like this, so we are asking for parts from vendors and anybody else that would like to help out a good cause.

It makes my heart sink when things like this happen. We all take risks to live life to it's fullest and sometimes things go wrong. My heart goes out to him and his family.

scoot, I messaged them about your MC seats and they said that might help if they have low side bolstering (ease of getting in & out is important). I will shoot you an email so you can get in contact with them.

Awesome. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Any special plans for handles or other features to accomodate his disability?

What a tragedy...but, it makes me happy to see people taking an initiative to help a fellow wheeler out. What is his status now? Is he doing any better?

Thanks for the heads-up on this one. I just posted up and offered my services to them. I offered to CNC plasma cut some parts/components to get him back on the trails.
