Chosing an air hammer

Gentelmen.

I need a new air hammer. It's primary function in my shop is quickly busting aluminum rivets to seperate panels. When I do this I figure I do about 1500 in a few hours. My old air hammer was a no name brand but it was awsome till the boy left it in the drive way, you can guess the rest.

So who can recomend a kick ass air hammer that can run on a 6 or less cfm portable compressor.

I love the big rivet busters but at 13-40 scfm,,, I aint buying a new compressor and air hammer... :)

I like my Cornwell long stroke hammer pretty good. I dont know the cfm but it will bust rivets all day long with no problems. The long stroke does bushings and suspension stuff pretty good too. I also use it to knock out the frame studs on cross members after I cut the heads off with a torch, never failed to get em out ever.

Red face

i had a good CP-715 that was great till the clueless helper killed it beating apart a welder he was scraping

I had that one since 1989 and he ruined it in a few short hours

upon shopping for a new one I see there is quite a price difference around $ 40 to $100 then jumping up to over $300 Like all else you get what you pay for.

I agree you get what ya pay for. The disturbing thing about trying to find a air hammer is there is no rating system or force comparison other than beats per minute and stroke. I dont mind spending the money for a good one, but I dont want to spend it and have a tool that wont cut the mustard. I noticed on the cornwell site that theirs at least states it is ideal for busting rivets..
