Modded my TN-250.....Now its Stellar-fied!!!

So after reading Billy's review of the TN-250 and of coarse I had been wanting one, I went ahead and called Shane up on got one coming. It arrived yesturday and I got it all put together. Its a very nice unit.

I knew that it was designed to clamp down to only 1" tubing. But most of my products range from 1" down to 1/2" diameters. So what else to do but start modding it! I started by disasembling the clamp assembly. I quickly redesigned the clamp plates in CAD.

Then I printed out 6 of them to scale, cut them out and installed them to test fitment.......PERFECT! They will now clamp down to 3/8" tubing and still be able to clamp up to 2", which is way more than we should ever need. So they are getting cut in the CNC Mill tomorrow.

The other change I needed to make was the available offset. The TN-250 along with most other notchers only allows up to a 1" offset. Well for some of the swingarms, subframes and other products we build, 1" simply wont do it. So now its off to the mill. I opened up the recessed area for the main arm slide to be able to come down along with extending the bolt slots 1.25", giving us a total of 2.25" of available offset notching. I went ahead and machined in reference lines for the 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0 and 2.25" offsets as well. Now we are in good shape!

Now I want to make it clear that I am in no way disappointed with this notcher. It is by far the best built nothcer I have seen in its price range. And I was fully aware of its specs for clamping and offset abilities. But I have yet to find equipment that meets all of our specialty needs off of the shelf. I have a feeling that I will be ordering another TN-250 and doing the same mods, simply to increase productivity.

Nice! Ditto E's request...I get into some 1/2" and 3/4" stuff.

Off topic: How do you like the Kalamazoo belt grinder in the background? I'm looking to add a belt grinder to my arsenal in the near future.

I will be installing the new jaws today to give them the real test. Once I am satisfied with them, I do plan on having the laser shop I use quote a batch order so that I can have them available for others. Most likely they will be around 25 shippecd for the set.

Graham.....I use that Kalamazoo belt grinder excessively every day. Its going on 2 years old and still going strong. I would buy another in a heart beat.

LOL your as bad as i am LOL , i always end up making a item more to what suits my needs as well . nice job i suspect some changes to future TN-250s from Baileigh LOL nature of the beast in this trade . i hacked up my bender to suit my needs better ,ill post some pics when i get things finalized it may help other out .

and the belt polisher in the back ground i have the same one at work , nice little machine for the price , just wish it was 1hp instead of 1/2hp it stalls easily if you work it too hard .

I truely apologize gentlemen. We are so busy and backed up in the shop that I havent had much internet time.

These jaws are available and work great. If these do not meet all of your size needs, then I dont know what will.

We use this notcher day in and day out. The few issues that the notcher presented to us (reason for our mods) would not effect 99% of the other fabricators out there. This is a killer notcher, well designed and very well built. And with the addition of the upgraded jaws, I cannot see anything that this notcher would not do.

If you need to contact me, please use our email sales@stellarmachineandperformance.com. We are responding to emails throughout the day, so the response will be much quicker than sending a PM via the forums.

As most of you already know, if you have any questions regarding Baileigh's products, Shane Henderson is a very knowledgable and friendly guy to work with. Dont hesitate to give him a call to discuss anything that he can assist you with.
