Its been awhile since I owned a Snapper lawnmower. IIRC It had an axle with a plate on the same plane as the ground. The motor drive belt turned a wheel that intersected 90* with the axle drive plate and that could slide closer to and farther from the drive plate center-line. This gave a continuously variable drive. It slipped when wet tho. And I don't remember how reverse was hooked up.
