My first build

Hi, me and my buddy Bart are building our first offroader. We plan to do some winchtrophy's and offroad rally's. Just for fun, on a low budget.
Here are some pics from the build so far, feel free to comment. We have to learn a lot....
This was the start. Axels from a 1986 Nissan Patrol 3.3D type R

And a LWB Sammy...

At the rear, we want a 4-link, in front will be the Nissan leaf springs, SPOA.
Rear axle cleaned and started at the 4-link:

This is where we are right now. Next is finish the exocage, rocksliders, putting airshocks in the rear, Trailmaster shocks in front...
Engine & drivetrain will be from a Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero 3L V6, but I haven't found a decent one yet....

Welcome to the OFN Peter

That Sami looks great, nice work

Are there many places to go offroading in Belgium?

Peter H 11-15-2010 06:10 PM

Thank you.

No, there isn't much left. There are 3 offroad parks in Belgium. Offroading in nature is forbidden by law... Most of the time we go offroading in France or Holland (also in offroad parks).
For competition we have to go a little further...
The best trophy's are in Romania and Croatia.
This makes our hobby so expensive....

cool build and i always love reading about the events from over your way.

The Blind Welder 12-04-2010 01:29 PM

How was it cutting and welding the square tubing into the rocker panels for your sliders?

I was planning on doing the same thing with 2x4x0.25, but wasn't sure on what I was going to run into when trying to mig the sheet metal to it. Was planning on welding 2x2x0.25 to the bottom (4 pieces) with Ballistics weld on bushings for added support.

flyingdutch 12-04-2010 03:48 PM

looks good:smokin: which trophy's, you gonna drive in holland ?

Peter H 12-04-2010 07:18 PM

@Flyingdutch: Yep, Liebrechtschallenge.
@The blind welder: Welding the square tube was a PITA! Sheetmetal is 25 years old and doesn't weld that good... On the inside i drilled some holes and put some M6 bolts in it.
http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/y...ockslider4.jpg
Supportbrackets are to be made to the chassis.
On the other side i won't weld at all, i think pop rivets are stronger...

The Blind Welder 12-04-2010 08:08 PM

Thanks for the inside pic

Peter H 12-05-2010 12:21 PM

It's alive....

Peter H 12-17-2010 12:31 PM

Yep, axles are from a 1986 Nissan Patrol.
They are very strong and don't cost a arm and a leg....:eyemouth:
I hope they can handle the power of the Mitsubishi V6:smokin:

Peter H 12-18-2010 08:31 AM

I like the presents under the Xmas tree this year.....
