I stumbled on these highly modified Argentina "Chevrolet Chevy"s (aka Chevy Nova in the US) used for road racing and thought they were too cool not to share.

First, a picture of my Nova for comparison. They start out looking a lot like this:

After modification, here's what they end up looking like:

The race series is called "Turismo Carretera". Any Argentines on the forum know about this type of racing? I did a search on the Argetina equivalent of eBay and found a few examples for sale. I want one!

The exchange rate for Argentine Pesos is about $0.225USD/peso, so these are asking around $20-30k US.

How are from-scratch body panels like this built anyway?

I was working in the shop today, and the FED EX truck showed up with a delivery!! My Miller was a day early!!

So I ended up getting a Miller 252 with the 30A spool gun. I played with the spool gun a little tonight and it is nice!!! I was playing on a piece of alum. 3 x 3 x 1/4 angle. For just guessing at the settings, I was able to get it into spray transfer. Now time for reading the manual.

Anyone have a good set of settings for ALUM? I am using .035 wire, and welding on some 1x1x1/8 and some 1x2x1/8.

Any other tips and tricks for this welder would be great!!

I am rebuilding my toyota W56 gear box and I have found it needs a new input shaft. The only thing wrong with mine is that the pilot shaft on the clutch end is badly warn. It needs to have 32 teeth on the input gear and I think it needs to be from a 4x4 gearbox. I have new bearings for it so I am not worried about them. I am happy to pay a reasonable price for it but I can get a new replacement for $155 so I would have to say that I wouldn't want to pay more then $75 or so shipping included.

I bought this car about 6 years ago and started to pro street it for my daughter. I have it caged, narrowed 9" with 4 link, frame is clipped in the rear with a Heidt's Mustang cross member in the front. I have 2 of everything for the car so I'm good to get busy on it .

I got overwhelmed with projects about 4 years ago and decided I needed it gone so I gave it away to a good friend thinking it would make a good father son project for his 16 year old son with the understanding that I got first chance at it if they ever got rid of it. Well I got the call the other day and he wanted to know if I wanted it back. I found it in the barn less the 289 and the front end all tore apart but it looks to all be there. Other than an inch of dust it hadn't been touched. I mentioned to my daughter that I was getting it back and I couldn't believe the excitement and anticipation she is showing in it. I didn't realize it but it really crushed her when I got rid of it the first time. This time I'm going to see it through for her.

Questions,

Thinking about a 289 and cam'ing a mild lope into it with a c4 for her. Or I was thinking about possibly looking into putting a Chevy throttle body on the 289 and see if I can make that work? I think I want to fill the thing up with Aluminum? A Tall center console with an aluminum cover from the back of the front seats to the back window. I think I want too turn it into a true 2 seater for her. Suggestions or advice? My daughter is now 22 and about to graduate from SDSU and I really want to make this happen for a very deserving hard working daughter. I think I might let her pick the color?

I have a contract to bend handles for a small local company that build pumps to flood ice roads in the winter. The handles are made from 3'4" square tubing. Each handle consists of 8 90 degree bends. In the past few years I was only bending around 40 handles for him, so it wasn't too time consuming, but he is growing and now wants me to build 100 each year. It will be time consuming and I would like to cut down the time if it is possible. My tubing bender is hydraulic and can bend 100 degrees in a single stroke. I can feather the manual hydralic valve real easy so that I can see the 0.1 of a degree pass on the digital protractor. What I would like to do, if it is possible, is to set it up with micro switches to cut out at the desired degrees. From the bit of searching I have done, it looks like I would have to change the manual hyd valve to a electronic one and add a/some micro switches. Other than that I am not sure what else would needed to be done or if there would be an easier way to accomplish this. Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Here is my bender

Last May, I purchased a rolling chassis to use in the TORC offroad racing series. The car was built in the mid '90s and had been racing in the classix class, which is 2wd suv's and cars. The class is pretty unlimited in engine rules, 460 ci max, oem block, no dry sump, and motor must be in stock location. But since it is a low budget class, the competition is pretty equal, and everybody is easy to get along with.

If you are interested in any of the other class rules, follow this link. http://www.torcseries.com/documents/...an-classix.pdf

Here's what the car looked like when I picked it up.
Paid $1200, threw in an engine, trans, centersection, and driveshaft(only thing not sitting on shelf), and ran 8 of the 12 races of the 2011 season.
Season went well, got our 1st two podiums, and had a blast.

9" full floater only had 4 races on it, as well as the rest of the wear parts on the car.
[IMG][/IMG]
nice footballs, eh?

Here's the new body I have for it. 1976 Buick Century. I seriously don't think I ever saw one of these before I found this at the pick and pull. [IMG][/IMG]

The crews here to start working so I gotta go. I already have a build thread over on rdc under show and tell, so this one will mainly cover the fabrication side of the build. I'll get some more pictures posted later tonight.
Thanks for checking out the thread.

For anyone familiar with an np 205. I've been looking for those plugs that go over the shift rail pins. There's also a 2 on the side of the case. Both sets are different sizes. One appears 3/8, the other 7/16 ... ish... Just about all four of these plugs were rotted right through. I'm hesitant to replace with new plugs if they're just going to rot out some day. 30 years from now, but either way..

I've considered drilling and tapping, either to a npt or a standard thread. Seeing as the case won't build up alot of pressure, if any at all, i dont' really see an issue with standard threads. Has anyone else run into this?

and on a side note. I can't beleive how clean it is in there. I have no clue if it's ever been torn apart before, but all the bearings are clean, and for the most parts smooth. all the gears look mint. It's incredible that 35 year old bearings and gears can be cleaner then half of the new crap I see these days.
